Other senses
With the end of the Christmas holidays comes a change in routine, and specifically the end of leisurely dog walks when we feel like it. To fit in getting the kids ready for school and starting work Halo and I have been going out earlier, which means it’s generally been harder to see anything.
There’s a curious feeling to be had when you’re out in a deserted field in the darkness and can see other people’s torches appear. I think we’re conditioned from films to see other people’s torches as vaguely scary and it is a weird experience, especially when the stranger gets a sense of your presence and starts to flash around to try to pick you out (see below!)
Meanwhile, while we can’t see anything, we can hear. The grass is frosting at the moment so you get the crunch of boots on frozen grass and solidified mud ridges, but the birds aren’t up yet and there aren’t many cars, so it’s generally quiet. Which is nice.
As we turn back towards home the sun is generally starting to start to rise. So morning is on its way, with all that brings.
